Turnitin

Turnitin

Turnitin is a 'text-matching' programme that is intended to teach pupils proper citation and reference procedures. Turnitin is also utilised by the ANU to ensure the academic integrity of students' work. Turnitin accomplishes this by comparing a student contribution to an archive of Internet documents and data, as well as a repository of previously submitted papers and a subscription repository of periodicals, journals, and publications. Turnitin then generates a 'Originality Report,' which both professors and students can read, that highlights where the text in a student contribution matches another source.

It is critical to understand that Turnitin does not identify plagiarism. Turnitin will only match text from a student's assignment to material from other sources (e.g. found on the Internet, within journals or on databases of student papers). The correct interpretation of these results by both professors and students is critical for Turnitin's success.
