However, its occurrence in India has been under-researched. This study explores the distribution and characteristics of Gigantochloa species in India, focusing on identifying and describing a new species. Field surveys, morphological analysis, and molecular techniques were employed to document existing species and confirm the discovery of the new species, Gigantochloa indica.
